UrbanTarzan, formerly known as John Thomas Brennan
Professional Animal Wrangler and Expert
"URBAN TARZAN" has extensive experience
working with Exotic and Domestic animals alike for all media
platforms film/television/print etc.
Urbantarzan has been captivated by animals and wildlife since being a small boy. Growing up in the Bronx New York, just a few miles from the Bronx Zoo, he spent many a day just mesmerized for hours at each exhibit, no matter what the species of animal. Knowing and feeling deep in his heart that he would one day fulfill his passion in life and work with exotic animals. From catching feral wild cats in the basement of the five story tenement he lived in as kid, to wrestling a 25ft 250lb Reticulated Python on national television, along side the late great Steve Irwin the "CROCODILE HUNTER".
SOME 30 YEARS LATER! He is called the "URBAN TARZAN" because of his unique connection
with and uncanny ability to handle and interact with dangerous animals. Working predominately in the concrete jungle "NEW YORK CITY", John's skill, one of kind approach and look, have landed him some great work in the entertainment industry.

I have handled many different species of animals in the last 30 years. I have learned a great deal about them, their survival instincts and habitat and have earned a great respect for all wildlife.

Wild animals have an instinct to protect themselves and defend their territory. Knowledge, care and compassion must be taken before removing a wild animal from a human population.

ADAPTATION OF WILDLIFE
Many North American species have successfully adapted to, and are thriving in the urban environment. Typical examples include coyotes, rabbits, raccoons, squirrels, opossums, deer and red foxes. This has led to conflict with man, as these animals open garbage bags in search of food, eat food left out for pets, take the pets themselves, feed on prized garden plants, dig up the lawn, and so on. Some fear that coyotes may be a risk to small children and that they should not be left unsupervised in areas where coyotes are known to inhabit. While there are media accounts of alligators being found in sewer pipes and storm drains, most experts think that such 'sewer alligators' are unlikely to sustain a breeding population in such an environment.
URBAN FACTS
Cities and suburbs may seem like the wrong places for wildlife, but in fact many of the same creatures that live in rugged wilderness also thrive in the urban environment. For example:
• New York’s Central Park is one of the country’s best birding sites, with 285 species spotted there to date.
• Black bears hibernate in the crawl spaces of suburban New Jersey homes and explore Wisconsin shopping malls.
• Coyotes roam backyards in the heart of Tucson, Arizona, and even hunt within a few miles of the White House.
• Hundreds of species, from Canada geese to cottontail rabbits, are now reaching population levels never seen before.
SAFETY TIPS
Here are some ways that you can deal with urban wildlife when it gets just a little too close for comfort:
• Raccoons: Cover trash cans securely; cap chimneys and repair loose shingles and vents to keep the animals out of the house; leave a radio on in an attic to chase away raccoons that already have set up housekeeping.
• Deer: Surround your garden with plastic deer fencing at least 6 feet high; spray a nontoxic deer repellent on the most vulnerable plants.
• Geese: It’s a crime to disturb nests without a federal permit, so contact your local animal control agency or a group like Geese Peace for help.
CONSERVATION
Plant and animal species are the foundation of the planet. Our healthy planet is continually changing, causing habitats to be altered and modified. Natural changes tend to occur at a gradual pace, usually causing only a slight impact on individual species. However, when changes occur at a fast pace, there is little or no time for individual species to react and adjust to new circumstances. This can create disastrous results, and for this reason, rapid habitat loss is the primary cause of species endangerment. The strongest forces in rapid habitat loss are human beings. Nearly every region of the earth has been affected by human activity, particularly during this past century. The loss of microbes in soils that formerly supported tropical forests, the extinction of fish and various aquatic species in polluted habitats, and changes in global climate brought about by the release of greenhouse gases are all results of human activity.
It can be difficult for an individual to recognize the effects that humans have had on specific species. It is hard to identify or predict human effects on individual species and habitats, especially during a human lifetime. But it is quite apparent that human activity has greatly contributed to species endangerment. For example, although tropical forests may look as though they are lush, they are actually highly susceptible to destruction. This is because the soils in which they grow are lacking in nutrients. It may take Centuries to re-grow a forest that was cut down by humans or destroyed by fire, and many of the world's severely threatened animals and plants live in these forests. If the current rate of forest loss continues, huge quantities of plant and animal species will disappear.

Please do NOT attempt to capture a wild animal. While they are more afraid of you than you are of them, their natural instinct is to protect and defend themselves.
